The Aristocrat is one of Royal's pre-war deluxe portables, sitting in the line just ahead of the Quiet De Luxe, which arrived in 1939 and went on to become the better-known name. Like the other Royal portables of its day it is a carriage-shift design; the earliest examples wore the round glass-topped keys collectors prize, though later ones did not. Choose it for the period look and the typeface, the Aristocrat was commonly fitted with an elite face, and treat it as a desk machine rather than a traveller.
